The European Commission, Euratex, and industriAll Europe partnership will involve a series of seminars and capacity-building workshops, as StitchTogether aims to enhance the capacity of social partners, empowering them to engage in national and European-level social dialogues more effectively.

The project also seeks to foster constructive dialogue between employers and trade unions in the seven countries to increase the involvement of social partners in EU policymaking and contribute to the development of sustainable and circular practices within the industry.

Through StitchTogether the European textiles and apparel industry is set to receive a boost in its efforts to adapt to global competition, eco-friendly practices, and technological advancements while ensuring decent working conditions and robust social dialogue.

Euratex director general Dirk Vantyghem welcomed the new initiative and said: “Having a constructive and mature social dialogue is an important component of this new EU Industrial Deal, which should be part of the next European Commission’s agenda. This project is therefore very timely.”

IndustriAll Europe secretary general Judith Kirton-Darling added: “Quality social dialogue is essential to make the green and digital transition of the textiles a success in Europe and ensure a Just Transition for workers. We are delighted to kick off this project and hope to see real results on the ground.’’

With the EU elections set for 6-9 June Euratex director general Vantyghem said in an interview with Just Style last week (23 May) there are concerns extreme politics could take over, but there is also a new Industrial Deal on the horizon that will provide the detail on how to implement the recent surge of approved ESG legislation.
