A freight train collided with an unoccupied car Friday night in Puyallup, according to police, leaving a number of crossings near downtown blocked for hours while crews cleared the tracks.

The Puyallup Police Department said in a 10 p.m. Facebook post that no one was injured and officers were working with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway to get the tracks cleared as soon as possible.

It’s unclear why the vehicle was on the tracks and exactly where the collision occurred. Police said it left crossings blocked at 12th and Seventh streets Northwest as well as Fifth and Third streets Northeast. A spokesperson for the police department was not immediately available to provide more information Saturday morning.

The car was removed from the tracks by about 11 p.m., police said in a follow-up post. A BNSF inspector responded to the scene.

All crossings were open by midnight, according to police, and the train moved along.
