Two dead and several injured after beach resort building collapses in Majorca



Two people have died and up to 14 have been injured after a building collapsed at a beach resort in Majorca.

Emergency services attended the scene at the Medusa Beach Club in Playa de Palma on Wednesday night.

Local authorities confirmed two people were killed in the incident, while many more were feared trapped.

A spokesperson for a regional emergency response coordination centre said: “We have activated an emergency response as a result of the collapse of the ceiling of a two-storey building in Avenida Cartago in Playa de Palma, where people are trapped.

“Firefighters and local police are at the scene.”

In a later update, the spokesperson added: “We can confirm two people have died in the collapse of the building in Playa de Palma.

“We can also confirm 12-14 people have suffered injuries of differing degrees.”

The nationalities of those killed and injured is not yet known.

Playa de Palma is the beach area lying to the east of the Majorcan capital, and is popular with holidaymakers.
