$10 million Illinois Lottery ticket purchased in the metro-east

There’s a new millionaire in the metro-east.

According to a release from the Illinois Lottery, a person who purchased a $50 scratch-off ticket at an Alton convenience store is the first to win the game’s top prize of $10 million. The ticket was purchased at Casey’s at 3499 Fosterburg Road.

“Something about the $10 Million game was sticking out to me,” the winner, who is choosing to remain anonymous, said in the release. “I wasn’t in a hurry to scratch it off, I waited until I got home. You could say, ‘I never in 10 million years thought I’d win the top prize!’”

The winner said they plan to start a college fund for their daughter and get a bigger house with a garage to indulge his vintage car hobby.

“Ultimately, I want to save the majority of this prize money and invest it,” the winner said. “The most important thing is to enjoy life with our family, and help provide for our kids and hopefully later in life, our future grandkids.”

The Alton Casey’s cashes in on the winning ticket, too. The store will receive a bonus worth 1% of the jackpot, or $100,000.
