A Hurlburt Field airman has died following an incident at his off-base residence


HURLBURT FIELD — An active-duty airman stationed at Hurlburt Field has died after an incident occurred at his off-base residence.

According to a release from the 1st Special Operations Wing, U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Roger Fortson, 23, died Friday, May 3. Fortson was assigned to the 4th Special Operations Squadron and entered active duty on Nov. 19, 2019.

The release states that the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has taken the lead with the investigation. Hurlburt officials released no other information to protect the investigation’s integrity.

The 1st SOW is currently providing casualty affairs services to the family and ensures resources are available to all those affected by the death.

Hurlburt Field officials urge those in need of assistance to reach out to the nearest available helping agency.
