GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) — Authorities are asking residents in the Gloucester area to shelter in place as they search for an “armed and dangerous” man.
The Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office says 32-year-old Robert Paul Rosell is believed to be on foot in the Lowneyville Lane and Pinetta Road. That’s where residents are being asked to shelter.
Bethel and Petworth Elementary schools and Peasley Middle School were also placed on lockdown. That shifted to “secure” mode, in which students are able to resume indoor activities like lunch.
“We want to reassure you that all students and staff in the affected schools are safe,” Gloucester County Public Schools said. “This precautionary measure was taken in response to a community threat, and we are coordinating closely with law enforcement to ensure everyone’s safety. Please remain vigilant and follow all instructions from authorities. We will provide further updates as soon as possible.”
Rosell was last seen in a white or green shirt and blue jeans, but could be changing clothes, authorities said. He’s wanted on charges of brandishing a firearm and possession of firearm by convicted felon.
“If anyone sees him or anything suspicious, please contact the Gloucester County Communications Center at 804-693-3890 and do not approach him,” the sheriff’s office says.
There’s no other information in the case at this time. Check back for updates on this developing news.
