Deputy shoots, kills York Co. suspect while serving warrant, sheriff’s office says


A deputy with the York County Sheriff’s Department shot and killed a suspect while trying to serve warrants early on Sunday.

Deputies say it happened near Ellis Pond Rd, just 12 minutes east of Downtown Rock Hill.

Deputies were called to a domestic violence incident around midnight when the situation escalated into an officer-involved shooting. It’s unclear how deputies became involved in the shooting.

A neighbor gave Channel 9 video of the moments when York County SWAT became involved. In the video below, SWAT officials announce they have warrants to search the home and arrest the suspect. Moments later, gunshots are heard.

Officials with the sheriff’s office have yet to release the identity of the suspect or what charges they may have been facing.

Just before 5:30 p.m., Trent Faris with the York County Sheriff’s Office, told veteran crime reporter, Glenn County, the suspect had died from their injuries at the hospital.

No deputies are injured. State investigators are taking over the case.
