How to listen to Taylor Swift’s new album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ when it releases on Friday, April 19

It’s a big week for Swifties. Not only did Taylor Swift unexpectedly show up at Coachella with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, but her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, debuts Friday.

The upcoming release marks Swift’s 11th studio album (not including her four re-recorded albums), and fans have been guessing what the new songs will be about ever since she first announced Tortured Poets in February during the 2024 Grammys. Well, we don’t have to wait too much longer — the countdown is on.

How to listen to Taylor Swift’s new album

Swift’s new album is expected to hit all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music, at midnight on Friday. You can pre-order or pre-add the album right now. Spotify even has a live countdown clock ticking away the seconds until the drop.

Taylor Swift new album lyrics that have leaked

Swift is a mastermind at avoiding leaks before release dates, but she has shared a few suspected lyrics on social media ahead of the album’s debut.

In the same Instagram post that originally announced The Tortured Poets Department, the singer included an image of papers in a file folder that read: “And so I enter into evidence / My tarnished coat of arms / My muses, acquired like bruises / My talismans and charms / The tick, tick, tick of love bombs / My veins of pitch black ink.”

Swift also included several phrases in other Instagram posts that she later used to title five curated Apple Music playlists. These playlists are broken into the five stages of heartbreak (denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance) and contain previous songs that Swift says correlate with each stage. The respective playlist names (and suspected lyrics from songs on Tortured Poets) are “I Love You, It’s Ruining My Life,” “You Don’t Get to Tell Me About Sad,” “Am I Allowed to Cry?” “Old Habits Die Screaming” and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”

The group chat reportedly also included actors Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott.
