Pet threatening your home office? Protect your cables with this $8 cable sleeve — no more chewing

As much as we love our four-legged friends (and those of us here at Yahoo Life have a lot of pets!), they can sometimes be a bit of a nuisance. Kittens especially. Those dangling cords can prove to be too great a temptation: One day you’re at work, happily moving your cursor around the screen, when it suddenly stops responding — and you find your kitten has bitten through the wire. You need a cable sleeve that is durable and will protect against small feline teeth.

This cable sleeve is 0.5 inches in diameter and 10 feet long. The good news? You can trim it down to size as needed, and it will help protect your wires from too-curious pets.

💰 Why is this a good deal?

This is on par with the lowest price we’ve seen this year, but more than that, it protects you from the need for expensive repairs. A random USB-C cable is easy enough to replace, but if your cat bites through your favorite mouse or keyboard cord? You will have to replace the entire device, and those costs add up quickly.

🤔 Why do I need this?

As much as we’re convinced our pets understand everything we say, they also choose not to listen. A curious cat will swat at and chew on cables and damage them, especially thin-gauge cables like those found on headphones. This cord protector makes it much more difficult for furry household members to interrupt your workflow.

These cord protectors also work in temperatures from -103°F all the way up to 257°F. Quick note: your electronics should never reach either of those temperatures — if you find a wire getting that hot, there’s a problem. That said, these can be used in automotive hi-fi speaker wires, so they can handle a bit of heat.

It’s not a one-cable-per-sleeve issue, either. You can group multiple cables together for better organization and protect all of them at the same time.

💬 What reviewers say

More than 48,000 fans rave about this cable sleeve. For such an inconspicuous accessory, the fact that it’s so well-loved says a lot.

👍 Pros

“Perfect for clean cable management,” one shopper said. “I needed a product that would help me manage cable organization for my micro WFH + gaming desk. This product took my workstation to the next level. I used the split tubing for anything that is exposed and hid the rest inside of an under-mounted hanger.”

Another pet lover said, “Cats … are jerks. They love to chew on cables just hanging out minding their own business, keeping your monitors and peripherals working … in comes these fantastic cable wraps. Super easy to put multiple cables inside of one wrap and split nature of these makes it super easy. It’s a cinch to cut and a quick use of a lighter will ensure the ends don’t unravel any. Cats have stayed away! I can’t give that a higher recommendation right there!”

👎 Cons

While many love this product, cats can be alarmingly clever, so you may want to heed this warning. “Kept my kittens from chewing cords. Only downside was they learned to find the top or bottom and open so I had to tape, but easy to use and did what I wanted. Several cords in one wrap is nice.”

Need a bit more length? This cable protector is still 0.5 inches in diameter, but comes in a 25 foot segment. There are also options for smaller and larger diameters, too.
