A CMS student died and two local students in the hospital in Asheville after a crash on Sunday morning.
Charlotte Catholic posted on social media that two juniors at the school are in the ICU in Asheville after a car accident. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed to Channel 9 two people died in the crash.
16-year-old Sophia Gordon, of Charlotte, and Robert Fox, of Wilmette, Illinois died in the crash.
Gordon was a junior at Myers Park, the school said on Sunday.
“We are deeply saddened to inform you that Sophie Gordon, a Junior at MPHS, was one of the passengers who died,” the statement read. “We are praying for Sophie’s family & friends during this very difficult time.”

The N.C. Department of Transportation alerted Channel 9 to a crash on I-40 near Asheville around 3 a.m. on Sunday. Six people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Two passengers were killed, two more passengers were transported to a local hospital and the driver and an additional passenger were transported to a local hospital. They have minor injuries, troopers said.
A 2015 Volvo passenger car was traveling east on I-40 when the driver attempted to take an exit. The vehicle was traveling too fast and lost control, ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree, according to troopers.

The crash on I-40 closed the major highway until 9:50 a.m. No charges have been filed, troopers said.
