Man gets 20 years in prison in Georgia drug distribution conspiracy that caused deaths

A Glynn County man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison without parole after pleading guilty to drug trafficking which prosecutors say caused deaths, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Jon Dillon Screen, 32, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute and to distributing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and a quantity of fentanyl. U.S. District Court Judge Lisa Godbey Wood also sentenced Screen to serve five years of supervised release after he finishes his prison term.

Investigators tied Screen to a drug trafficking conspiracy that was distributing methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin and alprazolam in the greater Glynn County area, which is about 75 miles from Savannah. The DOJ said Screen’s trafficking activities have been tied to two overdose deaths, including an unnamed 58-year-old Brunswick man and Screen’s 31-year-old girlfriend, Rebecca Cain.

“Dillon Screen didn’t care whose lives he put in danger to sell his fatal drug mixtures, including his own girlfriend,” said Senior Supervisory Special Agent Will Clark, who works in FBI Atlanta’s Brunswick office.

The investigation into Screen was part of a wider operation called Operation Ghost Busted. For more than two years, investigators from multiple local, state and federal agencies worked the case. It included the Glynn County Sheriff’s Office, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, the Glynn County Police Department, the Brunswick Police Department and the FBI Coastal Georgia Violent Gang Task Force. They investigated and charged 76 defendants. Other defendants are still awaiting trial.

Screen was a major distributor in the conspiracy and received one of the heftiest sentences of any of the defendants, the release said.

“Dillon Screen’s sentence is among the highest of all defendants sentenced in Operation Ghost Busted, and for good reason: He sold drugs that killed people,” said Jill E. Steinberg, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. “This multi-agency investigation and prosecution demonstrates our commitment to holding accountable those who illegally sell fentanyl and other deadly drugs.”
