FIRE BREAKFAST – Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department plans its annual breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the fire station, 5843 Beechwood Ave. Breakfast is free for all safety personnel. Meals are by donation.

STEEL BAND – The Mount Union Raider Steel Band will perform its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. April 16 in Brush Performance Hall at the Giese Center for the Performing Arts. The program features work by Dr. Clifford Alexis, George Gershwin, The Equitables and Timothy “Baron” Watkins. Additionally, the concert will feature works by Mount Union faculty member Jeff Neitzke and senior Max Dudack. Other students participating include Zachary Barnett of West Union; Mint Batson of Millersport; Branden Burnell of East Canton; Emma Cameron of Dover; Joshua Clay of Canton; Tori DeMeyer of West Union; Max Dudack of Akron; Matthew Korver of Geneva; David Leshon of Bolivar; Timothy Sams of East Rochester; Nick Schrickel of Stow; and Troy Wise of Grafton. SPRING GARDENING – The Ohio State University Extension in Mahoning County plans a series of workshops in preparation for the 2024 gardening season. Classes will be on consecutive Saturdays in April. This year’s courses will focus on maintaining, protecting and refreshing garden spaces from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 20 and April 27 at the Mahoning County Extension office, 490 S. Broad St. in Canfield. Registration for each program is $45, which includes hot lunch, sessions, proceedings, handouts and optional make ’n’ take. FREE SEEDS – A partnership between Ohio State University Extension of Mahoning County and the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will offer free seeds to county residents. Sample seed starter packets will be handed out from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. April 17 at Sebring Library, 195 W. Ohio Ave., while supplies last. Giveaways also will be held at other branches in the library district. Limit one packet per participant, while supplies last. Each packet contains a combination of carrot, cucumber, lettuce or sunflower seeds along with instructions to plant and care for your seeds. Contact the Mahoning County OSU Extension office at 330-533-5538 with questions about the distribution.

CIVIL SERVICE – Alliance Civil Service Commission will meet at 12:15 p.m. April 9 in the City Administration Building, 504 E. Main St., in the second-floor conference room. Purpose of the meeting is to certify Alliance Police Department list.

PANTRY OPEN – While many businesses and schools will be closed Monday for the solar eclipse, Alliance Community Pantry will be open for its regular hours, 4 to 7 p.m.

CCP SCHOLARSHIP – Carnation City Players has extended its deadline to apply for its scholarship. High school seniors with a passion for the performing arts, who have been actively involved in Alliance-area theater, can apply for the CCP Scholarship Award. Access the application at carnationcityplayers.org. The new deadline is May 1. The CCP Scholarship Award recognizes a high school senior who has showcased outstanding creativity and dedication to the theater.
