Group that takes hundreds of veterans to Washington each year gets honorary street name

Coinciding with VetsRoll‘s 15th year of transporting hundreds of veterans and Rosie-the-Riveters on an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., a segment of Riverside Drive in Beloit, Wisconsin, will soon bear the honorary name of “VetsRoll Drive.”

The public is invited to the ceremonial street name unveiling at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Harry Moore Pavilion in Riverside Park, 1160 S. Riverside Drive in Beloit.

The Beloit City Council approved the honorary name for Riverside Drive (US Hwy 51) from White Avenue to Henry Avenue in March.

Everyone is encouraged to bring their own chairs, lunches or snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Rotary River Center building, next door in Riverside Park.

Each year, VetsRoll transports over 220 veterans to Washington, D.C. at no expense to the participants. Each trip includes a caravan of wheelchair lift-equipped charter coaches complete with volunteers, media, support vehicles, police and motorcycle escorts.

VetsRoll is a charitable organization and registered non-profit corporation, existing on the generosity of the volunteers and donors to provide the trip at no cost to veterans.
