For Baltimore residents, the scene is difficult to believe: The Key Bridge collapsed.

A large container ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which spans 1.6-miles across Baltimore Harbor, early Tuesday morning.

The pillar couldn’t stand up against the crash, sending that section of the bridge tumbling into the water. Cars could be seen crashing into the chilly waters below.

The Baltimore fire chief said at least two people were quickly rescued — one of whom was in serious condition — and that search and rescue efforts were underway for more.

Meanwhile, the light of day brought the incident into vivid detail, as twisted steel rods from the bridge could be seen still wrapped around the container ship.
