The Jamestown Fire Department

returned to the scene of a Saturday house fire

on Tuesday, March 19.

The department was dispatched at 5:22 a.m. to 1614 5 1/2 Ave. NE, said Fire Chief Jim Reuther.

“It was fully involved again,” he said.

JFD was

first called to the fire on Saturday, March 16,

at 4:45 p.m.

Reuther said it was similar to the fire that JFD has been dealing with in a grass pile at the city baling facility on Sunday and Monday, which may have started from spontaneous combustion due to recent warmer weather. The department’s ready squad was called back to the scene on Sunday when smoke was reported in the pile, and firefighters returned on Monday when fire reignited in the grass pile.

City employees used equipment on Monday to spread the pile more to get to the source. Firefighters extinguished burning embers and were at the scene for more than 2 hours.

The Stutsman County Park Board on Tuesday, March 19, unanimously approved setting

a public input meeting for a potential recreation project

along Jamestown Reservoir.

The public input meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 1, at a location to be determined.

Park board member Henry Steinberger has proposed a project called Dakota Skies OHV (off-highway vehicle) Recreation Area. The project is currently in the public input phase and grant applications could be submitted to the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department.

The project consists of adding 20 to 40 miles of trails on Stutsman County land along the west and east side of Jamestown Reservoir. The trails would connect to Pelican Point Campground and the Parkhurst recreation area.

The project also includes adding tent camping areas with picnic tables and an area for a kayak station.

The project would be done on county land that was formerly owned by the Bureau of Reclamation.

The Stutsman County Commission on Tuesday, March 19, unanimously approved the

creation of a group to prioritize projects

for the parks superintendent.

The group will consist of three members from the seven-member park board that includes all five county commissioners. Commission Chairman Mark Klose will appoint the members.

Commissioner Jerry Bergquist said the group would prioritize projects that need to be completed each year over a five-year period. The list would be aligned with the park board’s capital budget and the group would make recommendations to the park board.

Bergquist said it would help Karl Bergh, parks superintendent, in determining what projects need to be done each year. He also said members should be appointed sooner so the projects can be prioritized for this year.

.
