A Florida woman is accused of trying to sell her 18-month-old daughter for $500, police said.

Jessica Woods, 33, was arrested on charges of child abuse, child neglect and abandonment of a child, according to a statement from the Palatka Police Department on Facebook.

Police said Woods was loitering around a local business in Palatka with her daughter when an employee asked Woods if she needed assistance.

“Woods told the citizen she did not need anything but, offered to sell the child to the citizen for $500.00,” the department continued. “When the citizen refused to purchase the child, Woods walked away, leaving her daughter behind.”

The employee immediately brought the child to the Palatka Police Department.

Officers and the agency’s Victim Advocate provided care to the girl until the Department of Children and Families took custody of her.

Police said the child was placed in foster care.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant and Woods was taken into custody on March 7. She is being held in the Putnam County Jail on a $255,000 bond.

A representative for the office of Florida State Attorney R.J. Larizza told PEOPLE that they “are still reviewing the case and have not filed an information/sent out discovery.”

The representative also noted, “The defendant will not appear in court for her arraignment until the information is filed.”
