Police justified in killing wanted man at Hanover gas station last month: York County DA

York County District Attorney David Sunday has determined that officers were justified in fatally shooting a man in Hanover last month.

Richard Bolen, 37, of the 700 block of Baltimore Street, was fatally shot Feb. 2 at a gas station in Hanover, state police and the York County Coroner’s Office said in news releases.

He was wanted by police in connection with brandishing a firearm at officers earlier in the week.

Sunday issued a three-page news release detailing what led up to the shooting death of Bolen. State police investigated the case and gathered physical evidence, video surveillance and body-worn camera footage as well as conducted witness interviews.

“The only time officers fired at Bolen was when he presented a clear, present and imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury to officers or any other innocent bystander,” the release states. “Officers were absolutely justified in using deadly force in this situation.”

Check back later as this is a developing story.
