Dog dies in Northwest Florida camper fire


MOSSY HEAD, Fla. (WKRG) — Flames engulfed a camper and left a pet dead this morning in Mossy Head, according to Walton County Fire Rescue.

First responders arrived at the structure fire around 10:32 a.m. on Mint Street, according to a WCFR news release.

“Neighbors called 911 after looking out their window and seeing a flames coming from a
nearby camper” parked under a metal barn, the release said.

Sheriff’s deputies evacuated a nearby home as ammunition reportedly went off and propane tanks exploded due to the blaze.

“Rescue crews … quickly deployed an attack line to extinguish the flames,” the release said. “DeFuniak Springs Fire Department and volunteers from Liberty also provided assistance
in knocking down the fire.”

The WCFR reportedly extinguished the fire, which they called “electrical in nature,” within 20 minutes of the 911 call.

The homeowner was not present when the fire broke out, but firefighters learned a dog died inside the structure, the release said.
