South Carolinians are heading to the polls today to cast their votes in the Palmetto State’s Republican primary, which will play a big role in selecting the GOP presidential nominee.
Former President Donald Trump and Nikki Haley — a onetime U.N. ambassador and the governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017 — are duking it out as the last two remaining major candidates in the Republican race.
South Carolina’s primary is usually an indicator of who will win the presidential nomination. Since 1980, all primary winners (except Newt Gingrich in 2012) have gone on to win the GOP nomination.
