One person is dead and more than 20 others have been injured after shots were fired Wednesday during a Super Bowl victory celebration for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves told reporters that police are still working to determine the total number of victims, but the “gunshot wound total has gone up to 22.”
The shooting occurred around 2 p.m. local time outside Kansas City’s Union Station. At a press conference Wednesday evening, law enforcement officials said three people were in custody for investigation in connection with the shooting. A motive for the shooting has not yet been identified.
The Chiefs won the Super Bowl over the weekend, and an estimated 1 million fans packed downtown Kansas City on Wednesday to celebrate. This is the first time that a victory celebration has been marred by gunfire in the city.
