Collision sends school bus crashing into Skokie home, one driver injured


A school bus collided with a car before striking a home and two other cars in Skokie Thursday afternoon, leaving one person with minor injuries, officials and neighbors said.

The accident took place around 4:30 p.m. on the 8600 block of Crawford Avenue, Skokie police said in a news release.

The school bus did not have any passengers besides the driver, police said. After colliding with the car on the road, the bus hit two parked cars on Crawford before crashing into the house, according to police.

One of the driver’s suffered minor injuries, police said, but it was unclear whether it was the bus or the car’s driver. The damaged brick home was being boarded up around 7 p.m.. Deep tire tracks were visible on the front lawn.

“I’ve never heard a blast, but it felt like a blast,” said the homeowner, who declined to be named. “It was that loud.” The homeowner, who declined to be named, said he froze for “a good 30 seconds, came downstairs, and couldn’t believe my eyes.”

Ali Asin, who identified himself as the homeowner’s cousin, said the homeowner was home alone with his cat and was not injured in the crash.

Police cited one of the driver with improper lane usage.
