Two people sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to local hospitals, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol which investigated the crash.

Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson confirmed to News Center 7 that a deputy attempted to stop the car after he recorded it going 86 mph in a 50 mph zone on U.S. 35 in West Alexandria. As soon as the deputy tried to pull the car over, it drove off and a chase began.

The deputy stopped when the car got out of sight, but began to chase it again after they found it again. That second chase was stopped by the deputy due to speeds and road conditions.

The deputy was already on their way back to West Alexandria to resume their normal patrol when the crash happened.

At this time, it is currently unclear if the weather had an impact on the crash. Troopers did note that salt trucks were requested to treat the road after crews arrived on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
