WEEKEND NOR’EASTER

Clouds will increase today ahead of the storm that will bring snow tonight. Snow will arrive west to east 8-10 p.m. across much of the area. However, it’ll be quick to become rain in southeastern Massachusetts where a winter weather advisory will be in effect.

A winter storm warning has been issued for the Greater Boston area and points northward. The highest amounts will be north and west of Boston. SE MA gets the least, but in between there is more uncertainty depending on the final track of the storm and the influence of the easterly winds. Right now, the storm looks to track south of Nantucket. Any shift northward would mean more mixing in eastern MA.

Temperatures will fall Sunday afternoon with snow falling from the strengthening coastal storm offshore. This will lead to flash freezing and potential slick travel. Anything untreated will be frozen solid Monday morning with readings in the teens.

Wind gusts will be strongest on Cape Cod and the islands, but with gusty winds over much of the area and heavy, wet snow in eastern Massachusetts, power outages are possible.

Splashover could occur at high tides around 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday.

Stay with us as this storm continues to develop. The track may still shift north or south as the storm still hasn’t formed and models are. We will always clearly communicate the changes to the forecast.
