You’d never guess this luggage tag — on sale for $19 — is also a portable charger for your phone

I’m That Friend whose phone is always dead or about to die, and that doesn’t change when I travel. When I fly, I use my phone for everything — from storing plane tickets and checking departure times to watching movies on the plane. Of course, all of that drains my battery, and by the time I land, I hardly have enough juice to summon an Uber. Luckily, so many luggage brands include charging banks in their carry-ons. However, if you don’t have one of those very expensive bags or are traveling with a light-ish duffel, you may want to check out this portable charging luggage tag. It’s compact, ingenious … and 13 bucks off right now.

Calpak’s faux cross-grain leather doodad comes in eight colors, some neutral and some bold, so you can surely find one that goes with your travel style.

What is it?

Calpak’s slim Portable Charger looks like a luggage tag that easily clips onto your carry-on, partly because it is. On one side, you can fill out your contact information; inside is a portable power bank ready and waiting to charge your phone, tablet, smartwatch, as long as it uses a USB plug.

Why is this a good deal?

The charger regularly goes for $32, but Calpak just marked it 40% off, making it only $19 right now. That’s a great deal any day, but considering the fact that you’re pretty much getting two products for the price of one makes it even better.

If you want it in time for Christmas, you’ll have to order by 4 p.m. PST on Dec. 19 and choose expedited shipping. Otherwise, you can order one for yourself via standard shipping and use it for all your future travels.

Why do I need this?

Other than going for less than $20 right now, picking one up now is smart for a number of reasons. For example, its charging capabilities: It contains 2500 mAh power. That’s enough to juice up nearly any smartphone or at least give it a major boost.

Keep in mind, however, that the higher the mAH number, the longer the charge a power bank can hold. That means that higher mAH numbers equal more charges (some power banks hold 20,000 maH to 40,000 maH). But while Calpak’s Portable Charger isn’t necessarily the strongest device out there, it’s incredibly lightweight at only 0.15 pounds and it’s TSA-approved. That counts for a lot if you’re on the go.

The charger also comes with a micro USB cable and a lightning adapter to fit most iPhones. Unfortunately, if you have an Android device, you will need to purchase or use your own cord.

What reviewer say:

So far, I’ve used mine during a long flight delay when the airport was mobbed and every outlet seemed to be occupied. I’ve also used it after a long flight movie- and TV-watching. The Calpak has just enough power to charge my iPhone 13 Mini all the way, which is really all I need. Other reviewers seem to be satisfied with it, too.

“Sleek and convenient!” wrote one enthusiastic shopper on Calpak’s website. “I’m loving this charger so far! It fits on my purse for everyday use AND held up great when doing to Disney and Universal! Highly recommend!!”

“Comes in handy!” gushed another reviewer. “This was a great purchase! I just hooked this portable charger onto my carryon and had enough power to charge my phone and AirPods while waiting on my flight!”

“I like the quality of the tag and it charges fairly quickly,” explained this charged-up customer. “Unfortunately a full charge on the tag only take my phone up to 85%, but that is still really helpful on a flight when they don’t have plug-ins. I am happy overall with the purchase.”

In addition to getting my own, I purchased a few of these as holiday gifts for family and friends. Everyone appreciates a helpful travel hack!
